THIS IS WHAT BEING UNEMPLOYED LOOKS LIKE

It's true, it's true! Today is Monday, it's currently 1:54 pm, and that's me drinking coffee on the porch!

Today marks my official first day of unemployment -- I've been laid off from milk milk (don't worry, we parted ways in a barrage of hugs and a flurry of lovey-dovey, high-school-yearbook-signing-style "See You Soons."

So what now? What can the future hold? Oh dear gosh whatever shall I do?

I shall drink coffee and I shall enjoy the sunshine for a bit -- but then it's straight back to productivity. As is the household saying around here, "Go Go Go." I've got my resume updated (check it out -- no seriously, hire me) and am putting together a proper (as proper as I ever get) portfolio. Then it's on to even more exciting stuff, all the projects that have been reserved only for evenings after work and Sunday afternoons. I'll be helping with the production of a Jimmy Marble short in Yakima, working with Katie on package design for Chad's documentary, doing some website building and copywriting for Foggy Noggin Brewing, and most importantly spending some more time songwriting and recording.

The idea is to make good use of the free time we'd all like to have. At least while I have it.

Which, to be honest, I hope isn't very long. So if you're an agency looking for a writer or a creative company wanting a rad dude for any sort of concept/content development -- hit me. I mean, don't literally hit me, hit me up. Or I suppose you could physically hit me too, so long as you write me a paycheck.

A while back I had a conversation with Jimmy all about the phrases we use. During our travels in the Balkans and my stay with him in Paris, he was constantly throwing up his hand with a "c'est la vie" -- a wonderful way to accept the circumstances (and colorful they were in those weeks) life may present. Months later, I realized I'd picked up "Here we go..." in much the same way. But there's something special about it for me, a sense of direction that "such is life" doesn't quite hold. It's got a little bit of movement, it makes sure that whatever life throws at you doesn't just leave you sitting there -- but instead becomes What's Next.

Here we go.
